Global MBA Testimonials

The process of creating value through work-integrated learning is extraordinary. It shifts the primary learning experience from the confines of academic institutions to the actual workplaces of our students. This transformation leads to an unparalleled sense of purpose, as it transitions skills training from theoretical teaching to the invaluable experience gained on the job.

Additionally, work-integration redirects the traditional focus of study from analysis to practical implementation. It is the act of implementation that has the power to bring about real change in the world. This new approach enables students to realize their potential in effecting positive changes within their work environments.

We invite you to explore the remarkable feedback from some of our students who have been willing to openly share their experiences of creating genuine value in their workplaces.

I have learnt very valuable lessons from this course which include:

The importance of involving all stakeholders in all the stages starting from the planning stage of a project until it is done. This in my view forms the foundation to every project and makes work a lot easier.

The importance of being a good leader when one is a project manager so that work is not only achieved properly but also enjoyed by all parties involved.

The importance of having a cost-schedule-time equilibrium in check when assessing how successful a project is. This concept was totally alien to me and now I have parameters I will use to manage future projects I did not possess before.

This assignment to me has shown the gaps that our company has in regard to its approach in the use of information technology to reach, engage and retain customers.

There is a whole market segment that can be tapped into by using IT. I was able to bring this to the point that being successful in technology can result in growth of revenues for my employer and particularly growth in foreign arrivals into the group. However, there is need for a shift in mind-set within the executive management.

Due to my nature of my business, I have a lot of experience working in a project setting. Whilst I may not have been aware of the principles and techniques that I was naturally adopting within these projects, which was very interesting to learn, I had a basic understanding of the processes and procedures involved in defining, planning and implementing a project.

For me it was very interesting to critically analyze what I deemed to be a successful project, to analyze its successes and failing and understand how I could further improve moving forward.

The value gained from this assignment is fresh insight about digital technology that we are missing today in reaching, engaging and retaining our customers.

Furthermore, it came as a surprise that in many cases we have access to these digital technologies. In many cases it is only a question of redefining existing processes and systems. In this instance, the assignment was most helpful.

I never thought I would enjoy learning so much, however this assignment literally had me gripped from start to finish. I feel that I am learning so much, not just about management, myself and my own self develop, however I have also noticed an improvement in my soft skills. I see that the fluidity of writing and my ability to articulate myself have massively improved….

As this is the last assignment, I will undertake for you, Professor Stout, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for making this MBA come alive for me. Prior to undertaking this module, I was just going through the motions and was not really engaged, however although we have never met or spoken in person, you somehow managed to inspire me to being better than what I had envisioned for myself.

In closing, once again, thank you for all your support and mentoring, you have made more of an impact on my life than you could ever fathom.

This assignment has helped me to retrospect as a manager and see how best I can change in order become an effective leader. It has shown me that I can also mold myself to becoming like any one of the great leaders I admire, only if I take time to sharpen the management principles of leading positive change as highlighted in the course.

This assignment has made me question the viability of my employer’s business model in the future, despite the group making profits in the current there is a risk that the future profit potential may become obsolete.

This assignment has forced me to look at the business from a future point of view with the aim of establishing how technology can and will affect the business operations of the group as well as how it can and will define the needs of the customer in the future. This is what Nokia failed to anticipate and it resulted the collapse of a company that was once that largest market share holder in its industry.

I’m very fortunate to work and operate daily in the telecommunication sector it forces me to ensure I am constantly updated on new developments. Innovation drives our industry. If we miss something new today, we might lose out on a future revenue stream. I really thought I’m clued up on digital technologies.

However, this assignment taught me something different. It really came as an eye opener what we might miss out in this technology race.

This course has been of great value on an individual basis and as a manager.

On an individual basis, l feel empowered to carry out my own financial planning such as cash budgeting.  With all financial techniques learnt in this course, l am able to interpret the financial performance of the business on my own. What a change! Also, our financial plans will be closer to reality as we have a tool (TARI) to monitor actual performance against this plan at any time.

This was indeed a difficult and tough assignment. I had to get our executive perspective to ensure I’m aligning the 4 perspectives correctly and that it will speak to the organizations strategic drive. The reading material was a bit overwhelming and at certain instances I felt I’m lost.

However, the many online IBR tutoring videos were most helpful. The one message that was clear: to ensure simplicity of the objectives, measures and targets. My intend in writing this assignment was that everyone in my company would immediately understand the concept behind the strategic map and the balance score card.

Strategic performance management has been a challenging assignment as it has taken me out of my comfort zone and has also forced me to look at the organization from a holistic perspective.

When working on the assignment it turned out to be an eye-opener seeing the importance of cause and effect relationships between the four perspectives. I have experienced the importance to constantly refer to the strategy map when making decisions. It was a great exercise to discover the creation of value from intangible assets and how that provides a competitive advantage over competition.

Operations management has been a very beneficial module to me as it has allowed me widen my scope and train of thought.

The course supply chain management has forced me to consider how our supply chain is managed, as is the main way in which the company generates its revenue as well as to fulfil its mandate of making fish accessible to the community.  It has allowed me to evaluate the inventory turnover and cash conversion cycle, which were two technical terms that I have learn and clearly applicable to the company in its inventory management.

I am now able to ask the Operations Manager relevant questions when it comes to the stock management.  It will also assist me in concluding harvesting agreements which will benefit the company both in terms of fish supply and diversification of fish products.
Lastly, the course has added to my belief that the current manager of operations lacks the necessary academic knowledge and the skills to effectively manage stock, thus require formal training or replacement altogether.

I will therefore see to it that supply chain received the necessary attention and support to make it more organized than it is at the moment.

Through the implementation of this assignment, my perspective of the MBA course as a whole has completely changed from me simply gaining knowledge of theoretical tools, practices and technics to something which I have immersed myself into completely to the point wh ere is it is changing me on personal level.

Theoretically I do not think I learnt anything from this assignment, however personally I feel that this assignment has helped me to grow tremendously and has made me a better manager and person.

This course has been valuable by introducing my company to Activity Based Management financial analysis. With this course, we have set realistic daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sales targets and ensure that for every unit we sell, we achieve our desired benchmark (TARI) of R0.79 per unit.

Before we were introduced to TARI, financial statements caught all of us by surprise at the end of reporting periods. Now, after having studied this course, we find assurance in attaining our target gross profit. No surprises anymore.

This assignment certainly was one of the more difficult ones for me. Difficulty in getting information, and once I received it, had to understand it, as at times it was really Greek.

But once again I learned things about my organisation that I did not know before. The same way with Finance and all the other very technical topics, it now allows me to have a seat at the table and participate or at least understand, versus before, where I did not really even pay attention when topics came up that I was not familiar with.

This course has helped me look at our company’s marketing efforts in a different way. The current situation is that communications efforts are fragmented and discorded. Efforts will be made to recommend more coordinated efforts.

This course has given me an opportunity to reflect on my own personal communication competencies and identify areas that I need to improve on. With this in mind I have generated valuable lessons from some of the best practices that I can immediately implement at my workplace with a lot of potential to improve on.
